I've actually been following the development of Starbound for quite some time. I wanted to pre-order it and get into the Beta, but I can't use any of the payment options on their site...

I was really excited for it, but I want to see gameplay on youtube first.

I ran into the dev page a couple of times, it looks pretty cool. Depending on the final product, it could work very well as a THEA roleplay.

I wonder if everyone would be on one ship, or if there's a choice for everyone to be on different ships. If it's the latter, then hopefully ship vs ship/pvp will be implemented.

EDIT:: Well this just reminded me of 0x10c, I wonder if Notch is still working on it. Nothing has been posted on the dev blog since November...

Yeah, ship vs ship combat would be nice, but judging from what the ships currently look like, that seems unlikely to be implemented: they do not look very well equipped for combat... Still, I think this game could be very nice for a THEA roleplay!

I had completely forgotten about 0x10c! I just took a look at the dev blog, and it seems the game was really starting to look nice, but I somewhat doubt he'll still be working on it after such a long period of silence...

Notch's said that he isn't working actively on 0x10c at the moment. It was kind of over hyped.

Also me typing Notch instantly made my fingers type Notix....

@Notix: You better practice not doing that, because it's turning into a habit Razz

@Starbound: I am pretty sure that this game could be used as an RP device. But my hopes seem rather limited due to the 2D aspect of it. Again, A multi-player Spore would be the best thing possible. Maybe with a D&D dungeon master to make events such as a Thelean invasion?

It would be interesting to play it having one main planet, Elithia, and having other planets nearby be some of the other roleplay empires.

The Glitch looks really cool! Space-worthy intergalactic knights in castles as well! I hope they'r spaceships aren't made of stone and wood...

I like the idea of the D&D-style dungeon master, but I'm not sure how feasible that is in Starbound. You can only play as one character, and I have no idea how much control you'll have over the environment, mob-spawning etc. Maybe mods would be useful there, if they will work for multiplayer.

@Jorgas: I remember a couple of pictures of the spaceships being posted on the development blog, maybe the Glitch ship was in there too. I'll try and find the blog post soon!

We should just play the game together for a while, see if we can do anything with it. I really like what they'v done with this!

It's out. I may pick it up post Christmas. Should we use this as our new game? If so we could RP slightly with us using IRL friends (Maybe?) as factions?

Yeah, the Beta launched today! I'm glad it's available on Steam now, as it has more payment options (the Starbound site required PayPal, which I don't use). I'll probably pick it up sometime soon - it would be great if we can play this game together!

It would be fun to do a bit of RP in it, though it probably won't be related to to the THEA RP - the races simply don't match. I know one IRL friend who's already purchased the game - I could ask him if he wants to join us when more of us get this game!

I really want to know if we can customise our space ships...

We may turn ours into a flying campervan if we can.

Very Happy Well, Glitch spaceships have little towers on them, which looks amazing.

I just purchased Starbound, and am downloading it now! Maybe we can play the game together sometime, Jorgas?
